What is AEO?
Answer engine optimisation (AEO) makes your website easy for AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews to read, trust and quote. SEO aims for a ranking. AEO aims for being the answer.
How is the AEO score calculated?
We fetch the page you enter and run 26 scored checks across five areas, read from your page, your robots.txt and your sitemap. Nothing is estimated. Checks that matter most, such as whether AI search crawlers are allowed, count for more.
Does a high score mean ChatGPT will cite me?
No tool can promise that. A high score means the page is easy for AI search to read and trust, which is the part you control. Whether an assistant cites you also depends on your reputation, reviews and mentions elsewhere on the web.
Why do you check my robots.txt?
Your robots.txt decides which crawlers may visit your site. Many sites block AI search crawlers by accident, often through a security plugin or a copied template, and become invisible to assistants without knowing it.
Should I block AI training crawlers?
That is your decision. Blocking training crawlers such as GPTBot keeps your content out of future AI models, but it does not stop AI search citing you, so it does not change your score.
Is the AEO checker free?
Yes. It is free and needs no account. We ask for your email so we can follow up if you would like help fixing the results. We never share or sell it.
